Local Knowledge S4E09 Midnight Sun Part 1 – Preview

The Local Knowledge crew makes a drastic change of scenery landing in Seward, Alaska to fish with longtime friends at Crackerjack Sportfishing. Their entended targets are large halibut and lingcod in this two-part series.

Crackerjack Sportfishing has been dialing in their fishing operation for over 25 years and they do it in one of the most rugged and productive areas in the world.

“Seward, Alaska is located on the north Gulf Coast of Alaska and is situated halfway between Homer and Prince Wiliam Sound,” said Capt. Andy Mezirow of Crackerjack. “We get water coming from two directions and it creates a biological soup here and there’s just an incredible amount of life and bait in these waters.”

Using spinning and conventional tackle, the boys work through the incredible variety of rockfish while searching for larger halibut.

“Bottom fishing in Alaska has a much greater reward than at home in San Diego,” says Ali Hussainy. At home, I’m catching 4 or 5-pound cod, but here in Alaska we are after halibut that range from 10 to 300-pounds and the by-catch of rockfish and lingcod is pretty stellar too.”
